The health benefits of sweet potatoes

Sweet Potatoes, the potatoes that taste so sweet you cant believe that it tastes that way naturally. Sweet Potatoes have recently been identified as an anti-diabetic food, meaning that they help to stabilize blood sugar levels and lowered insulin resistance. The reason for this benefit seems to be from its natural properties of carotenoids, such as beta-carotene. According to recent research beta-carotene and carotenoids have been linked to helping with insulin resistance as well as high blood sugar levels. Of course, there is more research to be done but researchers expect too discover unique healing abilities as well as abilities to help with blood sugar control.

Ah, sweet potatoes are so good, it almost seems like a treat.  But many people wonder, how healthy are sweet potatoes?  You may not have guessed but sweet potatoes are very healthy. Sweet Potatoes are rich in many nutrients that promote antioxidant activity.  They are also a great source of Vitamin A because of their high concentration in beta-carotene. They are also a great source of vitamin C, copper, manganese and minerals that are essential to one of the body's most powerful enzyme superoxide dismutase.

Incase you haven't heard, Vitamin A has been known to promote healthy lungs. The reason being, Vitamin A and other nutrients within sweet potatoes are known to maintain healthy structure and function of the tissue that lines the lungs. Recent research has proven that there is a significant correlation between Vitamin A and lung health. If you are a smoker, Vitamin A is especially important as smoking has been known to decrease your potential for absorbing Vitamin A. In many animal experiments, animals that were deficient in Vitamin A were much more likely to develop respiratory conditions and lung conditions such as emphysema.  This showed that there is a direct connection between Vitamin A and lung health, and sweet potatoes are a great source of Vitamin A.
